LISBON (AFP) - – Sporting Lisbon said Monday they have agreed a 6.5-million-euro deal with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of French international Florent Sinama-Pongolle in a deal running to June 2013.
Sporting added they would pay a further million euros based on performance bonuses.
Sinama-Pongolle, 25, began his career with French outfit Le Havre and then had a spell with Liverpool before joining Atletico in July 2008.
He has only been a bit-part player, however, in Madrid as Atletico keep faith with Uruguayan international Diego Forlan and Argentine star Sergio "Kun" Aguero in attack.
Sporting hope that their new recruit can inspire a title challenge as they are currently just fifth in the table, 12 points behind joint leaders Sporting Braga and Benfica.
